19th century horse wash located to the rear of Victoria Pier. The horse wash was used to bring working horses from the nearby docks and markets down to the banks of the Humber so they could be cleaned.
The structure consists of a concrete slipway, leading down to the riverside, with a horizontal platform where the horses would be washed. The platform would be partially submerged at high tide. The ramp and horizontal platform features a timber frame that was presumably used to tether the horses. This frame appears in the painting mentioned below but the date of the surviving timbers is unclear.
Known locally as the ''Oss Wash'
The horse wash can be seen in use in the Vittoria Hotel, the Pier, Hull, a painting by James Ashton.
