A concrete slab, used as the base for a timber Police lookout tower, Orford Ness. There is no sign of the tower in 1945 (Google Earth) or in 1951 (http://www.britainfromabove.org.uk) and a tag on Britain from Above image EAW037845, also from 1951, suggests that the structure used as the watch tower may originally have been sited to the north of the lighthouse. Aerial photography at http://www.channelcoast.org shows the tower in place on the concrete base from 2011 to 2014; the tower was no longer there by 2015, though the slab still appears to be whole.
Site visit January 2017: A concrete slab thought to be the base of the police tower was recorded as being broken up and sliding down the ridge. This however is not the police tower base (NT, pers comm), which lies further down the beach.
Site visit June 2017: The concrete slab is further broken up.
Site visit March 2018: the concrete slab is further broken up. Comparison with historic aerial imagery on Google Earth suggests this is in the right place to be the police tower base.
