Site of passenger railway station on the Liverpool Overhead Railway, opened on the 4th February 1893 and originally named Custom House Station as it stood near Liverpool's customs and excise building. It was situated opposite Canning Place on Strand Street in front of the entrance gates to Liverpool's Albert Dock. It was located on the elevated line 16 feet above street level above Dock Road on the iron structure which carried the railway. Each platform had its own stairway leading to street level, ticket facilties were provided on the platforms. The station also had platform canopies. On opening the station was served by trains operating between Herculaneum Dock and Alexandra Dock Stations. The station was renamed Canning Station in 1947. On the 30th December 1956 the station was closed; it was demolished late 1957.
