Bricks and barges - CITiZAN two day training event
25/07/2020 | 8 a.m.
Conyer Creek, Kent
This two-day course will focus on creating records with the CITiZAN smartphone app, creating scale drawings of archaeological features and how we draw all this together to create a report.
Day 1 (Saturday 25 July) will involve a morning session on the foreshore followed by a classroom session at the Ship Inn, Conyer Creek. It's an early start but we need to start work in good time before low tide at 10am! On Day 2 (Sunday 26 July) we'll continue to create our records on site before heading back to the Ship Inn to look at archaeological report writing. At-risk archaeology here includes a wharf associated with now-gone brick makers on the site and the remains of two barges that were used to transport bricks from the site.
Through our two-day training sessions we hope to establish a group of committed volunteers to whom we can offer follow up training sessions, workshops and survey days on different types of sites across East Kent.
Register your interest by emailing East Kent Coast Archaeologist Lawrence on lnorthall@mola.org.uk. Eventbrite booking will be set up in due course and we'll email you to prompt you to book. Although this event is currently planned to go ahead, MOLA/CITiZAN take the health and welfare of our staff, volunteers and the wider community very seriously. We will review the situation at the end of June and, in line with government guidance, may have to cancel this event to help safeguard against the spread of COVID-19. We'll inform you of any changes if they occur.
