East Kent Mencap Photography Exhibition
05/02/2020 | 11 a.m.
Nice Things Gallery, Ramsgate
On a grim and rainy Monday in September 2019 one of East Kent Mencap's photography groups joined the East Kent Coast Discovery Programme's Lara Band to visit the former site of Pegwell Bay Hoverport From its opening in 1969, the Hoverport was to be the future of channel crossing: as fast and glamorous as any airline. In 1982 operations ceased, unable to compete with the slower but larger and cheaper ferries. The buildings have since been demolished; the concrete apron, traffic control measures, formal planting schemes and more are being slowly being taken over by nature.
The weather did nothing to dampen the group's spirits and, as one of the photographers pointed out, the site "was weird, but interesting".
Come and see the photographer's choices of their favourite images; on Thursday, the Open Day, you'll be able to hear them talk about their work, and CITiZAN will say a few words too.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday CITiZAN will be running a circular guided walk of Ramsgate's harbour area, leaving from Nice Things each day at 2pm and lasting approximately 1.5 hours. No need to book, just turn up.
