Training: Recording the submerged forest at Pett Level

24/03/2018  |  8:30 a.m.

Pett Level Beach, East Sussex

Explore and record the submerged prehistoric forest at Pett Level with CITiZAN and Dr Scott Timpany.

This fascinating site contains the remains of over 1500 trees, once part of a Neolithic - Early Bronze Age forest. Environmental geoarchaeologist Dr Scott Timpany first worked on the site in 2014 and will be joining us again for this weekend. This weekend includes a foreshore recording session on Saturday and a hands-on sample identification workshop on Sunday where we'll aim to identify all the samples gathered on the foreshore the day before. As with all CITiZAN training sessions, there is no cost for attending and no previous experience is necessary.

Provisional itinerary:

Saturday 24 March: 08.30 - c 11.30 Foreshore recording session (low tide 10.00)

Sunday 25 March: 11.00 - 17.00 Species identification workshop in Hastings at the Jerwood Gallery studio
