Workshop: Recording seaside Margate
19/07/2017 | 10 a.m.
Birchington and Margate, Kent
Over this free training day you’ll learn more about CITiZAN and how to record archaeological sites and features with our mobile app or with the equivalent paper forms. No previous experience is needed - just enthusiasm! People who'd like to use the CITiZAN app on their smart phones/tablets will need to register as a CITiZAN surveyor before the event.
Morning session
10.00 Meet at The Antoinette Centre, Quex Park, Birchington CT7 0BH. A short intorduction to CITiZAN and what we've been up to in Kent will be followed by a look at CITiZAN's recording system and how to record features to add detail to our interactive online map. We'll also take a look at how to add extra information with a look at desk top studies including map regression. We're hoping that the Kent Finds Liaison Officer for the Portable Antiquities Scheme will be able to give a presentation; this is to be confirmed.
We’ll break at 12.30 for lunch (provided by CITiZAN) and an informal question and answer session.
Afternoon session - recording practice
13.30 Drive to Margate to practise using the app (low tide 14,55). There are lots points on our map already to update and we'll see if we can add any new points too. Lifts are available in our minibus for those without transport. We'll meet outside the main entrance to the Turner Gallery: the nearest car parks near the gallery are on the Harbour Arm, at College Square (Morrison's multi storey) CT9 1QA and at Trinity Square CT9 1HR (charges apply). We'll finish at 16:00, but if you need to leave a bit earlier, that's fine.
