Coal House Fort Park
*THIS TRINING WEEKEND HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED AND WILL NOW BE TAKING PLACE IN THE SPRING - DATE TBC*
The fantastic Coalhouse Fort Park, a Scheduled Ancient Monument, includes the Victorian fort with its associated railway link, jetty and rifle range, as well as the foundations of an Henrician`blockhouse' built 1539/40, a late 19th century `Quick-Firer' battery and a low-level radar tower dating from World War II.
During the weekend you’ll learn more about the history of this fascinating site, fortified since the 15th century. You'll also develop the skills to carry out a measured survey of a site and use our mobile App to add detail to CITiZAN’s England wide interactive map of coastal and intertidal archaeology.
Saturday will run from 10-3 with a guided walk of the site followed by lunch then a classroom based session looking at documentary sources. Sunday will run from 10-2. We'll record one or more of the features using measured survey, photography, recording sheets and our App, then have lunch and a informal Q&A session. No previous experience necessary!
