Stake(s) and Ships IV: Sandwich Bay, Kent

17/09/2020  |  5 a.m.

Sandwich Bay, Kent

**Postponed due to the ongoing pandemic, and in line with Government regulations. We now plan to run this event in Spring 2021, details to follow**

Join us as we carry out our fourth phase of fieldwork in Sandwich Bay. We'll be continuing our survey of the numerous stakes that cross the foreshore - most likely the remains of fish weirs. Join us for as many days as you like, learn how we survey and analyse these fascinating remains and help us to do so!

This event is free* and open to everyone, no experience necessary. It will be early morning starts, low tide on Thursday 17th is 06.57, so we'll be on the foreshore c06.00 each morning but we promise the sunrises are worth it!

We'll be firming up our itinerary in August. To register your interest email lband@mola.org.uk and we'll keep you informed.

*There is an admission charge of £7 for cars entering the Sandwich Bay Estate to use the beach. We strongly encourage car sharing or even coming by bicycle! We’ll do our best on to help you find car shares and may be able to reimburse costs.

This event is running parallel to fieldwork being carried out by the NAS (Nautical Archaeology Society) and their volunteers who will be recording the wrecks of Sandwich Bay over 17-19 September: there'll be a chance for you to see what they're up to and even to join them too.
