Festival of Archaeology Talk: An Insight into the History of South Devon's Rural Lime Trade

CITiZAN are delighted to host local historian John Risdon to talk about this fascinating industry and trade.   

The Devon landscape is littered with the remains of lime kilns which were used for the calcination of limestone into quick lime.  These intriguing structures can still be seen dotted around river banks and estuaries as the limestone was transported by water which was the cheapest and most reliable form of transport.
